Description

The book stands alone, but complements The Clock Repairers Manual by the same author, and the two books form a comprehensive, structured, progressive way to learn clock and watch repair.

I saw two mediocre reviews and decided I had to write my own. You don't want to allow mediocre reviewers to influence your buying experience. I bought this book primarily because I couldn't find any books that showed me how to repair a quartz watch. I'm not a quartz collector, but I have a reissued Hamilton from 1985 that no longer works. You can't buy a new movement, so I have to repair it. Oh, it was a special gift and limited edition.I found out how to fix the Hamilton, but I also learned a great deal more about working on mechanical watches. The author takes you through a step-by-step journey, so that you come out with a great running watch.I wrote a book that hit #7 on the technical best sellers list two years ago and I used the same formula. Present the theoretical material first and then do a numbered step-by-step approach. It works and the author did a great job here. The positives - you win. You get in-depth knowledge you can use over and over and solid advice. I never really understood how to file a screwdriver blade. I followed some directions for mentors and books, but I never had a clue how to do it until the author explained it so clearly. That just one of a few hundred examples and I do mean a few hundred. The negatives? The first part - the essentials is confusing to newbies. You can still work through it and refer to it later. If you want to work on watches as a hobbyist, an enthusiast or make a living at it - this book is essential reading.
