Olivia DeJonge and Levi Miller star in this comedy horror co-written and directed by Chris Peckover. The film follows teenager Ashley (DeJonge) as she arrives to babysit 12-year-old Luke (Miller) during the Christmas holidays. It's not long before Luke begins exhibiting some strange behaviour and tries to seduce Ashley. Things quickly get out of hand when a masked intruder breaks into the house and begins terrorising the pair, forcing Ashley to go to extreme lengths to try and fight them off. However, it soon becomes apparent that the intruder isn't who he initially seemed, leaving Ashley in a desperate fight to survive the night.

I was very excited to see this film after reading about it online. Once I saw the trailer, I knew I definitely had to watch this film! The movie is about an 18 year old girl who has to babysit a 13 year old and his friend on Christmas day. Everything seems to be going fine until they discover they are not alone in the house. They soon realize that instead of having a quiet Christmas evening, they are forced to fight for their lives. The actors portray their characters very well. There are some instance where it may feel a little forced but otherwise they do a great job making you feel for each character. You can feel the pressure for the babysitter and how she has to deal with things throughout the movie. It's not very often we get to see a lead actress stay strong in a horror movie without pleading for her life or life of others. This lead actress makes you want to say "Good Job" or "You go girl!". I can't say to much about the kids otherwise it would be giving out too much and would spoil the movie. But I will say that they did a hell of a job for 13 year olds. The story feels fresh! It doesn't feel like a copy or something pulled from another movie. It feels new and something we really haven't seen in a horror movie before. It manages to balance horror, thriller and comedy just right. The movie takes us on a rollercoaster ride where it's serious then it's funny, then back to serious with a little humor. Things start to get really serious halfway through and keeps you glued to your TV to find out what happens next. This is a perfect balance and should not be overlooked for it.There isn't too many kills in the movie (for the horror fans like myself) but two of the deaths are just jaw dropping and are actually believable (with the one not really done before). The other deaths are pretty generic, but the camera angles they used to shoot the scenes make them look pretty good. All in all, I was very happy with this film. It's been a while since a new idea came up. I had only wish that this was an actual theater release to give it the attention it deserves. Movies such as Wish Upon or Leatherface could have switch and gone directly to video and this movie go into theaters. Better Watch Out can be enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike, it's a instant true horror Christmas classic and should not be overlooked. It would be great if the film gets to do a sequel and be able to pick up where this one left off giving us a classic horror chase the victim scenario (almost like the original Halloween and Halloween 2, where we find Laurie fighting for her life in a house and the sequel picks up in the hospital). I'm giving it a 5 star rating because of it's fresh idea, it's great storyline, great characters, fun humor and it's ability to make you keep watching until the very end. Don't pass up on this great film. One quick find word, be sure to watch the credits for a quick additional scene.
